The long wait is finally over and loyal basketball fans finally get to see their favorite teams suit up and take another long seven month journey in hope to be crowned NBA champions. Opening night has come and gone and for some teams it appears they have not  lost a step.
This season appears to be very unique because so many teams have undergone a complete roster makeover  The Chicago Bulls appear to be in rebuilding mode needless to say with Derrick Rose possibly out for the year it maybe time to press the RESET button, The Dallas Mavericks only have 2 remaining members form their 2011 championship team, The Los Angeles Lakers landed the most sought after big man in the league while trading away the best center in the game, The aging Boston Celtics tried to take a step toward the youth movement which could have adverse effects on team chemistry, Houston literally pawned all of their valuable players and got nothing in return except a offensively inept center and a flash in the pan point guard, O.K.C traded away a vital component of their second unit  in hopes to save a few bucks, and the newly crowned Miami Heat upgraded its arsenal  by adding 2 of the leagues top 10 3 point shooters but still failed to answer the lingering need for a viable big man and efficient point guard.

During the summer there were a lot of sought after free agents but I do not get all the excitement over players who have yet to prove themselves in the league. Deron Williams is considered an elite point guard. But the definition of an elite point guard should be someone who makes their team better but I just don’t see him as that guy. Carmelo Anthony is a player who people always consider better than Lebron but this is far from true. How can a player who has only made it out of the 1st round of the playoffs once even be in the same breathe as a reigning 3 time league MVP. In sports theses days it appears perception weighs more than reality. Owners are now trying to build super teams, while super teams can fill seats with their aw inspired unparalleled talent; if there is not chemistry between those player they will doing everything  under the sun except win a championship. Think Im lying just ask Miami how they felt walking off the court with their heads held in shame after a that game 6 loss in the 2011 Finals.

From the opening tip it has been determined that the only way to truly answer these question is for these athletes to take the floor. On Opening night Miami defeated the Boston Celtics even though Lebron James didn’t play in the 4th quarter because of leg cramps. In the second game of the night The L.A Lakers took to the  with their newly acquired point guard Steve Nash and heavily coveted center Dwight Howard. Also after a summer of speculation  we get to see just how the often mocked Princeton offense will pan out.

It is well known that I am the furthest thing from a Lakers fan but basketball is my life and I just can’t see them advancing out of the west this year. Kobe Bryant is a killer on the court but nothing more about their roster  astounds me. Steve Nash is old, geriatric old, Old Caucasian male running around your neighborhood  at 6 in the morning for exercise old. Dwight Howard is a great acquisition for the Lakers but if they need him to actually be apart of the offensive flow and contribute more than a an occasional highlight reel dunks or better yet hit clutch free throws when the game is on the line; I doubt that Howard will be the missing piece to give the Lakers a return trip to the finals.

In the coming months fans such as myself will be in for one Hell of a roller coaster ride. Especially with the All Star Game and a bevy of Who’s Who coming to town in mid February it might be safe to say we are in store for a season for the ages., and we here at Houston TREND will be here to bring you the latest news and analysis along the way!
