“I wasn’t a producer first, I wasn’t a club DJ first; I learned how to chop and screw before anything else. That was the first thing I learned how to record,” - DJ Mr. Rogers.

Have you ever wondered where this new age Houston music rooted from? I’m talking about the music that has grownups dancing in the clubs. I mean people have always danced in Houston clubs, but never to Houston music. The “Southside” by H-Town legend Lil KeKe was arguably […]

(Article) Miss Mykie – Breaking Digital Grounds

MM_12.01.13 (iYo Edit) Full ResWe all know Miss Mykie from toting her signature Mo Hawk and trendy fashion style, holding down the couch, as she co-host 106 and Park. One of four new faces that graced the hit televised music count down, with the world’s livest audience, joining the other hosts in 2013, after the departure of Terrance and Rocsi, Miss Mykie was one of the stand out hosts next to co-host Mr. 106 and Park, Bow Weezy, until Miss Mykie parted ways from BET, but still showing love, for the opportunity. “I really thank BET and 106 and park. That opportunity really did help teach me how to be a TV personality. I was performer Mykie and performing and being a TV host are two different things. I thank God for that opportunity and also Stephen Hill.”

Now Miss Mykie is breaking Digital Ground, All Def Digital, that is. She signed on to be the host of the info-tainment show, The Tea, which would be a part of Russell Simmons’ new company All Def Digital, which dropped latter this year. After the departure from 106 and park, Miss Mykie started the very first Instagram media spill, in which she captures news and gossip in the 15 sec allotment of the Instagram video. She had a production team and a set to really bring it alive and not made to look just like a regular video upload. “I was nervous at first because nobody had did this before and we didn’t have anything to look at. It was all trial and error and it wasn’t easy, but there were so many people hitting us trying to figure out how we were doing this. I was just excited that people were excited and interested in how we were running the production.’’

Thanks to a good mutual friend of Mykie’s, Billy J, she was able to be introduced to Steve Rifkind, one of music’s most forceful components, breaking huge artists such as, WuTang Clan, Mob Deep, Big Pun and more. “A good friend, Billy J, who was A&R for a big record label in New York and when I was doing music, we actually flew out there to meet him about some of my music. After that, we just became cool with Billy and he stayed around throughout the grind and once The Tea started popping, he liked it and he’s really cool with Steve Rifkind and he sent the show to him and the next after Billy said he sent it, Steve sent us an email to fly me out to LA to talk about some business.”

In this 15 sec IG video, Miss Mykie dishes on the deeds of the entertainment world, spilling all the tea. Well, the idea struck gold with All Def Digital. “I just get to show everybody who Mykie is. Russell Simmons and Steve Rifknid, they find stars and they know talent when they see it, so it just means so much to me that they saw something in me to be able to invest in me to have my own woman show.”

More recently Miss Mykie started a new show, The Drop, on ADD YouTube channel countering the same concept, delivering the latest news and gossip in pop culture, entertainment and celebrity news.

You can also be looking for Miss Mykie to be gracing the big screen as she has been working on getting into acting, to show off that gorgeous face of hers. “I have an agency out in LA and I’m actually reviewing lines for a couple of auditions I have lined up. And I have another huge project that’s already locked down that I’m really excited about coming out in 2014.” Not to mention we can be expecting more music from her as well. Miss Mykie hasn’t put out any new music since before landing the hosting job at 106 and park and assures she’s got something in the works. “I have a new single coming out in 2014, that’s featuring Future and I’ve been working with some really dope producers and songwriters. We have a couple of dope records already, but I’m not going to rush the project. I’m learning now that you can’t really rush anything; God has time for everything, so you just have to go and make everything organic.”

From TV hosting, to having her own online show, to acting and music, the H-Town female running back is certainly setting the bar for hustling and a true example of what hard work and dedication will get you. “Never give up. When you’re in the slumps thinking it’s never going to happen, you’re literally 10 steps away and God is testing your faith. Are you going to crumble and fall or are you going to just finish strong? You have to believe in yourself and have a great team behind you and really be passionate about what you do.
