(News) Houston ISD Proposes To Shut Down Five Schools At End Of This School Year
HISD officials announced a proposal this past Wednesday to shut down Jones High School, Fleming Middle School, and Dodson, Henderson, & Port Houston Elementary schools. This is said to be proposed due to the decrease of population in the communities which results in a lower amount of students that attend these schools each year.
The district Superintendent Terry Grier stated to Click2Houston.com:
While these types of changes are always difficult, it’s important that we constantly
evaluate enrollment levels to utilize our facilities to best serve our students.
