(Sports) Kardhiac’s Take

1399491057000-draftThe draft has come and gone for the Houston Texans. In hopes of rinsing the horrible taste of last season’s 2-14 record, out of our mouths, the process has begun. The Texans added Jadeveon Clowney to their defensive line, along with 2. Xavier Su’a-Filo (OG–UCLA) 3. C.J. Fiedorowicz (TE–Iowa) 3. Louis Nix (NT–Notre Dame) 4. Tom Savage (QB–Pittsburgh) 6. Jeoffrey Pagan (DE–Alabama) 6. Alfred Blue (RB–LSU) 6. Jay Prosch (FB–Auburn) 7. Andre Hal 7. Lonnie Ballentine (DB–Memphis). It’s clear that defense has been a focal point from this past off season. But a lot of needs, still went unanswered. First and foremost, our secondary is horrible. I find it hard to believe that in a draft that was so deep, we were unable to find a single corner back. In a division that will require us to go through The Broncos, Patriots, and to a lesser extent Colts to make it to the Super Bowl, a solid secondary is necessary. Texans_Schaub_Out_FootballFurthermore, we did not address our blatant need for a QB. No wonder Andre Johnson wants out, taking into consideration that he is in the back nine of his career; its clear he is not interested in rebuilding.

Before I continue, let me take the time to welcome Mr.Clowney to Houston. But with that being said, let me warn you sir. Please do not get sucked into these H-Town streets. Houston is a beautiful city with wonderful fans who will support you. But then there’s the other side of Houston; the night life in particular. Ask James Harden about the nightlife and how fun it can be. After he finishes telling about all his great experiences partying in this city, watch his performances in the playoffs, the past couple of years, and watch how all the partying and bottle popping affected his play. Matt-Schaub-jersey-burnedIf that doesn’t work, ask former QB Matt Schaub how it felt when his play slipped, and an angry mob assembled outside of his home. If none of that motivates you, just remember how your work ethic was constantly questioned before the draft. After your lackluster performance last season in South Carolina, your only focus should be proving those naysayers wrong. The sky is the limit if you have the right attitude. You will be on the same defensive line with JJ Watt and Brian Kushing; soak in all the knowledge you can from them. Help the Texans fans restore their faith in the hometown team, which has been shaky over the past few seasons.

As far as the upcoming schedule is concerned, it actually looks quite promising. 12 of our 16 games this season, are against teams who did not qualify for playoff contention last year. I know we have yet to see them take the field, but it seems like we may catch a break this season. I have faith in our team, but they always find a way to let us down. I’m interested to see if Bill O’Brien can bring a new, winning attitude to the franchise; similar to how he did with Penn State, in the wake of the Jerry Sandusky scandal. I’m also interested in seeing this stout defense that Romeo Crennel brings to the table. Some may not agree with what I’m about to say, but you’ve read this far, so why stop now. I really wonder if Arian Foster will ever start to live up to that contract he received. Arian is injury prone and doesn’t seem as hungry as he used to be. Once again, this is an example of another Houston player who has let his off field shenanigans, effect his production on the field.

Have a great season guys, and I wish you all the best. For more updates and content, continue to come to Houston TREND Magazine.
