Solange-A-SEAT-AT-THE-TABLE-album-cover-2016-billboard-1548Solange Knowles’ third studio album A Seat At The Table  beat out Bon Iver’s 22, A Million to claim the No.1 album on the Billboard 200 chart making this Solange’s first No.1 album.  According to Nielsen Music, A Seat At The Table eclipsed over 72,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Oct. 6 which was better than Iver’s 71,000 units.

This isn’t first time reaching the Billboard 200 charts,oOn Feb. 8, 2003, she made her Billboard 200 chart debut with Solo Star, which debuted and peaked at No. 49. Five years later on the Sept.13 list, she gained her first top 10 album, peaking at No.9 with Sol-Angel & The Hadley St. Dreams.  And about five years after that, her album, True, debuted and peaked at No. 157 on the Dec. 15, 2012.

Solange’s new No.1 album accomplishment makes her and her sister Beyonce one of the few pair of solo siblings to earn No.1 albums on the Billboard top 200. Solange and Beyonce are the first set of solo siblings since Micheal Jackson and Janet Jackson to earn No.1 albums in the same year. Micheal and Janet did it in 2001 (with Invincible and All For You, respectively).

Prior to the Knowles’ and Jackson’s, other solo siblings who top the charts included Master P and his brother Silkk the Shocker.

A Seat at the Table was released Sept. 30 by Saint Records, Solange’s own label, through Columbia Records. There will be a  physical CD release of the album is scheduled for Nov. 18.
