Review by: Loso of Houston TREND

Imani RoseThese days, it is difficult to find an artist who you don’t have an immediate comparison to. People tend to hear what they are familiar with, when listening to an artist. So it is very unusual when you can’t pick a person the artist reminds you of, and that is the case with Houston’s pop sensation, Imani Rose. With her sophomore EP “AMERICON”, Imani opens the doors  to her inner thoughts and attempts to give you a piece of her soul, while mixing it with production from platinum producers, Beanz N Kornbread and new comer Micale Lawry.

Prior to each song, Imani gives the listener the unplugged approach, by explaining her feelings in the following record, and that makes you appreciate the next song a little more.

However, the album start off with “Fruit Snacks” and “Black Cards and Passports”, which doesn’t give you a good example of how the rest of the album is, nor do they give her justice, as far as her range, in subject matter, and writing ability. Imani is better displayed with her seductive bad girl with attitude, on tracks like “Eye Contact” “You Is” and “Punishment”. She is more impressive when she opens up completely on the albums lead single, “Bits & Pieces” produced by Beanz N Kornbread. “Bits & Pieces” is a candy coated, sugar rush of a song that makes you see Crayola colors all over it. But the song, itself, has a very ominous vibe in the lyrics. The song can only be explained as magical. Imani and Beanz N Kornbread made magic on “Bits & Pieces”.

If this album gives you any direction as to where this pop sensation is headed, then you know that you will be seeing a lot more of Imani Rose, an artist who lacks the fear of saying what is on her mind and coding it well in song.
